Khatti Arbi Ka Salan Recipe


Salt   : – as per taste

Tomatoes   : – 3 medium size

Turmeric powder   : – ¼ tea spoon

Garlic-ginger paste   : – 1 tea spoon

Onion : – 1 (sliced)

Colocassia   : – ¼ Kg

Chili powder   : – 1 tea spoon

Tamarind pulp    : – 2 tea spoon

Curry leaves   : – 8-10

Oil  : – 3 tea spoon

Green chilies   :-  2-3

Method of preparation:

  1. First of in pot take the onion and peel it. Then chopped the tomatoes, remove the seeds of the chilies and chop it as well
  2. In half glass water keep the tamarind for soak for 15 mins and then keep the pulp only
  3. Make a salted water and keep the arbi for boiling into it
  4. Take a normal pan; add some oil into it, mix the onions and fry it till its color become brown. Then mix up the garlic-ginger paste, chilies. Curry leaves and keep it on heat for some time,
  5. Then include the chili powder and turmeric, mix it properly and again keep this mixture on the gas for some time
  6. Include tomatoes. Keep it on the gas until the tomatoes are meshed properly into it.
  7. Now mix the arbi, keep it for cooking. Then add some water and salt’ again cook it on the normal flame for some time.
  8. Include the pulp of tamarind and cover the pan with some plate.
  9. Now you can serve it very hot with chapattis or paratha.


Khatti Meethi Dal Recipe


1 cup Bengal Gram (soaked)
2 Dried Dates
100 g Beet Root (chopped)
1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
50 g Groundnut (roasted)
½ cup Tamarind Juice
½ tablespoon Cumin Seeds
50 gram Jaggery
6 Curry Leaves
1 tablespoon Coriander Powder
3 Chilies (paste)
1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
1 piece Cinnamon
Pinch of Asafoetida
1 teaspoon Cloves
1 tablespoon Green Coriander (chopped)
1 tablespoon Clarified Butter

How to make Khatti Meethi Dal

  • Add dal and beet root pieces and cook them until dal gets tender.
  • When cooked, add jaggery, tamarind juice, dates, groundnuts, chili paste, turmeric, coriander powder and salt.
  • Boil for 15 minutes over a low flame.
  • Now heat clarified butter in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin, cloves and asafoetida.
  • Let the seeds sprinkle for a few seconds and pour the seasoning on dal.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves.


Khatti Meethi Recipe


Bengal Gram :-  1 cup

Beet root :-  100 Gms

Groundnut   :-   50 Gms

Mustard seeds:-   1 tsp

Cumin seeds:-   11/2 tsp

Dried Dates  :-   2 nos

Jaggery :- 50 Gms

Clarified butter:-  1 tsp

Tamarind juice:-  ½ cup

Coriander powder:- 2 tsp

Curry leaves :-  6-7 nos

Cinnamon  :- 1 piece

Cloves :-  2 tsp

Coriander   :-  1 tbsp, chopped

Salt  :-  1 tsp

Asafetida :-   a pinch

Chili paste  :-  2-3 nos

Method Of Preparation

1)    Wash the Dal in water and boil it along with beet root in a pressure cooker.

2)    Once cooked, add salt, jaggery, turmeric powder, coriander powder, dry dates, curry leaves, tamarind juice, chili paste and groundnut. Put it to boil

3)    For the seasoning, Take oil in a pan and heat it. To this add cloves, butter, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon and cloves.

4)    Add all these to the Dal and cook for close to 5 mns

5)    You can garnish it with coriander and serve it hot.
