Osaman Recipe


Coriander leaves :-  2 tbsp, chopped

Peanuts :-  2 tbsp, roasted

Green chilies   :-  4 nos, sliced

Red grams (Masoor Dal) :-  150 gms

Turmeric powder :-     ½ tsp

Cumin Seeds  :-  One tsp

Mustard seeds  :- 1 tbsp

Fenugreek seeds :-   ½ tsp

Curry leaves :-   12 nos

Asafetida  :-  1 big size

Oil  :-   2 tbsp

Jaggery  :-    2 tbsp, grated

Tamarind Pulp  :-   2 tbsp


1)    Take the tamarind pulp, dilute it by adding water and see to it that there is no lump formation.

2)    Take the lentils, wash them and boil them in 200 ml of water and keep simmering it.

3)    When done, add tamarind water, turmeric, Green chilies, peanuts, jaggery and salt.

4)    Simmer on low flame till the dal appears cooked.

5)    Take a pan, heat the oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter add cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, asafetida and curry leaves.

6)    Remove from flame and add spices and oil into the dal.

7)    To be garnished with coriander leaves.
